Effects of Hypoxia on Rat Brain Norepinephrine, Dopamine, Serotonin Contents



Abstract
Changes in cerebral catecholamine were investigated in white rat following 20-min ischemia. After recirculation norepinephrine decreased significantly in frontal cortex, striatum and hippocampus. Dopamine was decreased in frontal cortex and
hippocampus,
but slightly increased in striatum. Serotonin decreased in frontal cortex, striatum and hippocampus. These catecholamine normalized after 24 hour recirculation. It is conceivable that these neurotransmitter changes may be one of the mechanism of
ischemic damage.
